About this Wine

Located in Monção, Quinta da Torre has a great diversity of soils in its eight distinct plots. Expressão is created exclusively from grapes of the Alvarinho grape variety from Quinta da Torre. The best grapes from each plot are selected, thus allowing the elaboration of a rich, complex and exquisite wine. The intensive study over the years, by Anselmo Mendes, of the Alvarinho grape variety in the process of fermentation and barrel aging is present in this wine.

Tasting Notes

Floral aroma, notes of jasmine accompanied by orange blossom. Nuances of vanilla and almond are harmoniously present, conveying character and complexity. The strong acidity provided by the Alvarinho grape variety is in perfect harmony with the freshness that Expressão offers. A gastronomic wine, Expressions accompanies different dishes from different cuisines. An enriching wine that allows the balance between different dishes. From the simplest starters to more complex dishes, Expressions enriches the palate and makes it a unique experience. This wine should be served between 11-13°C.

Vinification

During the morning, the grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes and transported to the winery in a short time. Very gentle pressing of whole destemmed grapes. Long clarification with cold. Fermentation in used 400 liter French oak barrels. Aged in these barrels for 9 months with batonnage on total lees. Aged for 24 months in bottle.

Combining the use of ancestral techniques, such as tanning, with daring winemaking methods, such as the fermentation of Alvarinho in oak casks, it asserts itself in Portugal and abroad with an original project and its own identity.

Anselmo Mendes' wines are the result of a long and faithful connection to the land, an experimentalist and studious spirit and a philosophy of respect for the ecosystem, materialized in the forms of integrated production.

It is in the Vinho Verde region, the largest and one of the oldest designations of origin in Portugal, that Anselmo Mendes has the birthplace of most of its wines. The Atlantic influence gives the region a climate and an atmosphere of freshness and exuberance that favor the uniqueness of the wines produced.

Anselmo Mendes is present in three valleys in the region: Monção and Melgaço, Lima and Vale do Douro (Baião). Anselmo Mendes' vineyards are certified in Integrated Production, proof that good agricultural practices are in their nature. Viticulture is sustainable, contemplating the rational use of water, soil improvements and the non-use of herbicides. These practices are also combined with the recovery and planting of forests, the restoration of the operation of old grain mills and the presence of animals.
