Winemaker’s Collection is the unique collection of limited edition DOC Douro wines: reds, whites and rosés – in numbered bottles signed by our winemaker Ricardo Macedo. The Tinto Cão grape variety was selected for this Reserva Rosé. It is one of the most unique grape varieties in the Douro, with its small bunches and densely shelled fruits. With an enveloping acidity and soft, robust tannins, this variety conveys good ageing potential, resistance and freshness. An elegant, broad and complex rosé, which aged in the cellars of Quinta de S. Luiz.
Tasting Notes
Salmon pink in color, this wine has aromas of fresh currant and pomegranate and floral notes. In the mouth it impresses with its texture, silkiness and elegance, with subtle notes of smoke that enhance its complexity. Its freshness lasts throughout the tasting – a delight for the senses. With a fresh and long finish, it invites reflection. An excellent wine to accompany a meal, but also great to drink on its own. Ideal to accompany seafood dishes (both seafood and fish), white meats and cheeses of medium intensity.
Vinification
Produced in the Cima Corgo sub-region, the Tinto Cão grapes were harvested by hand and later transported to the Quinta de S. Luiz winery in small boxes to ensure that they arrived in perfect health and ripeness. To avoid color extraction, we lightly press the previously selected whole curls on the sorting tables. Subsequently, 80% of the batch fermented in stainless steel vats with controlled temperature between 10-14 ºC, while the remaining 20% fermented in used oak barrels. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine aged for six months in stainless steel barrels with weekly bâtonnage.
