Vinification
The winemaking was traditional, as in all Peñalolen vintages, with a slow and prolonged extraction. After 32 days of maceration, the wines were transferred to the barrels, according to the personality of each batch, to maintain the typicity of the Maipo Valley terroir. Peñalolen was aged for 12 months in 2nd and 3rd use French oak barrels with various degrees of toast. The barrels come mainly from central France, Tronçais and the Nièvre forest. Gentle clarification with egg whites and light filtration finish the process.
Tasting Notes
Deep and bright garnet. On the nose, it reveals black currants and plums, with a hint of dazzling mint. Notes on a background of wet herbs and earthy tones, leather, soft spices and cloves. Round and well balanced in the mouth, with a lot of generosity. The fine tannins, which still need a little more polishing, add more density and lead to an expressive spice finish of mint-cooked fruit and floral accents.
