Vineyards
This steep 62-hectare (153-acre) site facing south to southeast features a distinctive geological mix, rare in the Mosel, with reddish, rock-rich soil composed largely of volcanic rhyolite and conglomerates. Due to this unusual soil, the wines of Ürziger Würzgarten exhibit an especially fine spiciness. They are full of fruit, splendidly full of mouth, with good acid interaction and clear structure.
Vinification
The grapes were harvested in October, gently crushed and given several hours of skin contact to extract aroma and minerals. The must fermented slowly and naturally at low temperatures so that the complex fruit aroma developed perfectly. Subsequently, the wine was carefully matured on its lees in wooden barrels.
Tasting Notes
The Riesling Ürziger Würzgarten Spätlese is concentrated and complex, the nose unfolds intense notes of lighter stone. Full-bodied and precise, on the palate, delicious spicy aromas that culminate in a persistent finish with salty subtlety.
