Viticulture
This wine comes exclusively from the plot of our winery, planted in 1981. The vines grow in fairly heavy, clayey soils, resulting in wines with a smooth and friendly palate. The 2020 harvest provided us with excellent grapes, intense and tasty. We made several passes through the vineyard and then they were combined to produce this wine.
Vinification
Grapes harvested earlier provided the backbone of the wine with a slightly higher acidity , while those harvested a little later added richness and weight. The grapes have been pressed very gently to avoid the strong phenolic compounds that can come from the skins. The must was fermented in stainless steel tanks at cold temperatures with selected and cultured yeasts, while the remainder fermented with wild yeasts in used French oak barrels (3 months) so that the oak influence would show up in the wine, adding overall complexity. Several months of resting on the lees after fermentation, to provide more volume and complexity to the palate.
Tasting Notes
Lime green in color. The classic varietal notes of lychee and rose petals combine with aromas of stone fruit and fresh lemon. This wine is dry, with a rich, round and generous palate, and a great concentration. The floral, citrusy and juicy tropical fruit flavours combine in a flavourful wine, with a gentle balance of acidity and a heavy mouthfeel.
