Niepoort’s philosophy has been, in recent decades, to innovate, diversify, break taboos, maintain tradition. Alongside the redesigned The Senior Tawny, in which we used the bottle with the most traditional shape and a moustache to underline seniority, we redesigned the Junior Red based on the concept of a young, fresh and contemporary wine. The Senior Tawny spends most of its time aging in small barrels, in the cellars of Niepoort, in Vila Nova de Gaia. The barrels allow for smooth and light contact with the air through the porosity of the wood, resulting in a slow oxidation process over the years.
Tasting Notes
Senior Tawny comes from the low-lying vineyards of Cima Corgo, in the Douro Region . The grapes are predominantly trodden by foot, in lagares, before aging in old barrels in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia.
Vinification
Reddish brick color, typical of Tawny; On the palate, it is velvety, showing a harmonious blend of old wines, which confer richness, with newer wines, responsible for freshness and complexity.
