About this Wine

Tasting Notes

Clear and intense garnet colour with violet reflections. This Touriga Nacional presents itself directly through a typical aroma, characterized by violets and orange blossoms. The floral aromas are repeated again with great precision on the palate, unfolds a slight fruit sweetness. A typical appearance of a 100% Touriga Nacional.

Vinification

The grapes were cooled overnight and then slowly fermented within 15 days in traditional lagares. An extremely careful procedure for the grapes, due to the lack of mechanical influences. Maturation of 6 months in French oak barrels.

This is a family that has always been linked to wine. The first records date back to the eleventh century, but from the eighteenth century onwards the mission of the Bohm family towards the sector became more evident, being one of the main importers and distributors of wine in Germany.

Jörg Böhm, founder of Quinta da Plansel, saw in the Alentejo grape varieties an enormous wine potential, and in 1975 he bought the first plots of land for the exploitation of the vineyard and created Viveiros Plansel. In the early 90s, his daughter, Dorina Lindemann, came from Germany to Portugal and, taking advantage of the existing vineyards linked to her father's technical improvement program, dedicated herself to wine production.

Dorina's goal was thus to transfer all of her father's basic knowledge to oenology. The revival of old grape varieties was the secret of the differentiation of these wines, both in quality and quantity. Currently, the daughters Júlia and Luísa are also part of the wine business, from Marketing to oenology, ensuring the future of the project.

Quinta da Plansel is located about 100 kilometres from Lisbon, in the southeastern part of the city of Montemor-o-Novo. The property has 75 hectares of vineyards that are an integral part of the DOC zone of Évora. The region has a temperate climate with Mediterranean characteristics. Temperatures drop rapidly with sunset, and with the influence of the sea, night temperatures drop below 18°C. The cool nights guarantee good acidity and an aromatic profile favourable to Quinta da Plansel's reference grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Verdelho and Gouveio.
