It is the third largest wine region in Germany and got its name from the river that runs through it. It stretches from where the Mosel River joins the Rhine River to the border of Germany
White grape varieties dominate production in the region, especially Riesling, which represents 60% of the Mosel’s vineyards. The region is known for its excellent Riesling wines.
Viticulture in this area dates back to 2000 years ago. The best vineyard plots are on steep slopes, with slate soil, situated right next to the river.
